Thilo Bode

Consumer-protection Organisation Foodwatch

Thilo Bode was president of Jusos, the youth division of the SDP, in the Starnberg district. He first studied Sociology at university in Munich and Regensburg, before changing to Economics. After qualifying as an economist in 1972 he received a doctoral scholarship and obtained his PhD in 1975 with a dissertation on direct investment. Subsequently he worked for Lahmeyer International in Frankfurt, for the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW, Credit Institute for Reconstruction) in Frankfurt, and as executive board assistant for a medium-sized metals company in Düsseldorf. From 1989 to 1995 he was manager of the German branch of the environmental organisation Greenpeace, and from 1995 to 2001 he held the same position for Greenpeace International. In 2002 he founded the consumer-protection organisation Foodwatch, and has been running it ever since.
